ANZ Grants available for the 2023/24 season

We know household budgets are feeling the squeeze right now and this means that some of our younger players could miss out on a fun summer of cricket.

If this sounds like your family, then good news. ANZ Cricket Grants are back with a $100,000 fund to help subsidise Kiwi kids’ club cricket fees. Successful applicants will receive up to $80 towards their fees, via a voucher with a unique code. Simply redeem it when you register for the season. A maximum of two children per family can get the subsidy.

Get your kids’ cricket season underway by applying here.

About The Junior Club

Our junior club caters for primary and intermediate school aged boys and girls (Year 0 to Year 8), and also supports the Junior Girls-only grades (Years 5-11).

Grades

Mixed grades are based on the child's school year at the start of the season (i.e. for this season, the 2023 school year):

  • Years 0-1 participate in the Superstar Programme - a junior skills introductory programme.
  • Years 2-3 play in their relevant age grade competition, using a soft cricket ball and is played on a dual pitch.
  • Year 4 is a transition year. It is played with a soft cricket ball and is played on a single  pitch for 16 overs per innings.
  • Years 5-8 play in their relevant age grade competition, using a hard cricket ball.

The above grades are all mixed, however girls also have the option to play in specific girls' only grades:

  • Girls Softball - Years 5-8 - played using a soft cricket ball.
  • Girls Hardball - Year 7-11 - played using hard cricket ball.

Playing Gear and Attire

Players need to wear white shorts or cricket trousers, and a junior playing shirt*.  Sneakers (or cricket shoes) are to be worn.

Each team is issued with a gear bag, which contains the necessary equipment for training and matches.  Players do not need their own bats etc to start playing - this is something you can build up over time if you wish.

You can purchase junior playing tops online.

*Details on how to purchase a junior playing shirt will be sent to players after registration.

Registration fees

Registration fees include team photo. Players will need to purchase a junior club playing shirt*, white shorts/trousers, a box for hardball grades, and wear sneakers or cricket shoes. While players can bring their own gear, gear bags are provided for each team.

The fees for the 2023/24 season are as follows:

  • Superstar Cricket (Years 0-1 at school) $88
  • Junior Softball (Years 2-4 at school) $88
  • Junior Hardball (Years 5-7 at school) $93
  • Junior Hardball (Year 8 half season) $68

Registration fees must be paid on registration.  If you are unable to make an online payment, please contact the club directly on petonejuniorcricket@gmail.com to arrange a payment plan.

*Boys and girls can purchase the blue junior club shirt. There is the option for girls to purchase a junior girls shirt and wear in the mixed grade, which they wear if they are also playing in the girls-only grades. Further details on how to purchase a junior playing shirt will be sent to players after registration.

Volunteer Support

Our club is run by volunteers who give up their own time to provide an enjoyable experience for players.  We ask that you show them respect and offer to support them where you can.

All teams require a coach.  If you would like to be a coach/assistant coach for your child's team, please let us know when registering.  You do not need to have been a player - coaching courses and support are available.  Teams also require support with scorers and ideally a team manager.

Being involved in your child’s sporting activities has many rewards—memories, great conversations, a deeper relationship with your child and the chance to watch your child 's confidence grow.
